There are two versions of Teamviewer, the free one and the one that costs. The one that costs has a few more features in it but nothing you can’t work around in the free version and voila, you look like a hero as you’ve helped a friend and your friend’s computer is working again.
Even though you usually try to keep this information tightly controlled, it always seems – if you know anything about computers – that your friends suddenly start inundating you with calls to fix their ailing machines.

It’s usually not something that you want anyone to know about, if you’ve been dealing with computer issues for a number years, because you know exactly what will happen – the calls will start and the please will come over the phone to help them with “little problems that are slowing down their computers.” By the time you are done, you’ve probably ended up rebuilding most of their computer and the thanks you get – if you’re lucky – is a cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee and a donut.

Since it seems inevitable, anyway, that your “secret life” will get out there, it makes sense to have a copy of TeamViewer that you should keep installed on your home computer and another install disk or a free copy of an install disk that you can leave you the sites where you will be helping out. It just makes sense.

Once you’ve installed it and have it running on both computers – each session has a unique ID number and password – you will find that you have nearly complete control over the desktop of the ailing computer and then you can find out the problem; fix it while you remain at home and log out.

It’s that simple: install at home and leave it running and then give your friend instructions on how to install it on his computer – usually on the phone, though you can send the instructions as well as login passwords in emails and you’re all set; the next screen you see is the ailing computer.

Once you’ve figured out the problem – usually something minor – you fix it, look like a hero and go on with your life. If it takes a bit longer, you can actually set up a chat with the user of the ailing computer, walk them through a number of tests; narrow down the issue; fix it and you’re on your way. The best part is you’ve never left your home.

It’s a nice piece of software that should be installed on any computer where you will be doing work on other ailing computers.

How to Control Two Computers with TeamViewer
There are a number of solutions that let you access a remote PC as though you were sitting at that computer. Some, like LogMeIn and GoToMyPC must be purchased.
Teamviewer.com will let you install free software on two computers and let you control the remote PC from your own computer. Both PC’s must be connected to the Internet. If you have two PC’s in your home, you can test everything by connecting those two.

If you’re looking for a simple, free solution for accessing Windows PC’s inside your home or business network, see my article about Microsoft Terminal Services Console on EzineArticles.

TeamViewer is free for personal use. Business users pay a fee.

After clicking through the setup wizard, each user will be given an ID and a Password. I’d recommend clicking along through the wizard while you talk on the phone with the remote user, so you both choose the same settings. Some browsers automatically fill in default settings, some don’t. When in doubt, choose the first option on a list, or use common sense.

If you wish, the installation will create an icon on the Desktop that will instantly launch the ID and Password screen, making future access much simpler. The remote user can even choose to let you in automatically in the future without a Password, but some people are nervous about leaving their PC this open.

If you will be the user controlling a remote PC, you’ll need to obtain that ID and Password from the remote user. A phone call, an online chat session or an email will let them tell you their numbers.

If the remote user is nervous about a random stranger accessing their PC, remind them that only they will know the ID and Password codes that permit each access.

Plug in the remote PC’s ID and Password on the dialog box on your PC and you’ll gain immediate access to their computer. Your mouse and keyboard will control their PC, and you’ll see what’s on their monitor. Their colors on your monitor may be limited and pale; carrying the extra information needed for millions of colors is not really needed. This enables your mouse and keyboard actions to occur almost instantaneously.

Security features may prevent you from a few actions on the remote PC. If the remote PC’s firewall software sees that a request is made to open a new port to the Internet, you may be unable to authorize it remotely. For example, if you launch Microsoft Word on the remote PC, then click on ‘Help’ and ask for extra Help information from Microsoft’s website, their firewall will recognize a new attempt by that PC to access the Internet. The firewall’s job is to make sure that the user, and not a virus, is making the request.

Their firewall will block the connection until someone clicks the ‘OK’ button to authorize it. As a remote operator, you might not be able to click ‘OK’ — it must be done by the remote user. Everything else will work fine, but the extra Help information will be shut off until the remote user authorizes it. So, you may want to make sure they’re available by phone, just in case.

You can launch software on the remote PC, transfer files between the PC’s, enable HotKeys, and use other handy features. You could do the setup for a new printer on the remote PC, but the remote user would still have to plug it in, turn it on, put the installation CD in the drive, and let you back in after a reboot.

Your monitor will have two Start Menu’s, two Desktops, etc. — yours and theirs. Just pay attention and you’ll keep them straight.

Review
The GIMP – which stands for the “GNU Image Manipulation Program” – is open source graphics editing software with a range of powerful features for image authoring, image composition, and photo retouching. Versions of the program are available for use on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, and it provides a powerful but extremely affordable alternative to expensive commercial programs such as Adobe Photoshop.

In terms of painting and drawing images, the GIMP includes a full suite of drawing tools (all of which produce smooth drawing effects thanks to powerful anti-aliasing technology) such as pencils, brushes, airbrush, and cloning. The program of course supports custom brushes and patterns, as well as gradient and blending tools. For adjusting, manipulating and cleaning up images, there are many different tools, and most importantly the program supports multiple levels of undo and redo, so if you make a mistake, you can easily recover from it.

The GIMP has its own native file format for saving images, known as XCF, which retains layers and the other sophisticated editing features that you need to keep for work’s that are still in progress. However images in GIMP can also be loaded, saved, or converted to and from a wide variety of popular file formats including bmp, gif, jpeg, png, ps, psd, tiff and numerous others.

Another powerful aspect of the GIMP, is that like top-end commercial graphics programs, the software is both extensible and can be automated:

* Extensibility means that programmers can enhance the software with add-on modules (“extensions” or “plug-ins”) that provide extra features over and above the basic program. For example, typical extensions may add support for loading or saving images in different file formats, or provide extra effects and filters for manipulating images.

* The automation features of the GIMP allows scripts to be set up to perform common procedures that you might otherwise need to do again and again. For example, if you have a large number of images to convert from one file format to another, a script can be set up to do this in automated way, rather than you manually have to load and then re-save each individual image.

Obtaining the GIMP is easy. The GIMP is actually an open source program, which means you can download it (including the source code, which you can review or even edit if you have the programming skills) for free. That said, if you’re not a technically-orientated type of person, this may not be the best option for you. The other way to obtain the program is to purchase a commercial distribution of the program (these are mostly very reasonably priced) – the advantage of which is usually a straightforward and easy installation procedure, documentation, support, and in many cases, useful extras bundled with the basic program, such as tutorials or clip art libraries.

Tips and Tricks
If you want to turn an image into a jigsaw puzzle or if you need individual jigsaw pieces, you can do this very easy by using GIMP. You will have to download and install the program – it is free of charge.
First of all, create the target image that you would like to use for your jigsaw pieces and open it with the program. Next, figure out the desired pixel height and width of your image. You can do this very easily by selecting the IMAGE tab, and after that, the IMAGE PROPERTIES option. Now, create a new, blank image that has the exact dimensions. In order to do this, click on the FILE tab and after that choose NEW. Next, type in the pixel height and width of your image.

The jigsaw puzzle has to be made on the newly created, plain background. You can do this by clicking on the FILTERS tab located above your blank image, and after that select: RENDER > PATTERN > JIGSAW. Now it is time to adjust the options shown in order to fit your desired amount of pieces (select 1-20 rows and columns), piece shape (curved or square), bevel width. After doing so, save the image.

It is now the time to add your target image as a layer to the base of the jigsaw and for doing so, you must select the FILE tab, and click on OPEN AS LAYER and pick out your target image. If you take a closer look at this new image you will notice that at the top it now has two layers. You will have to toggle between them. In order to do so, you have to open up the layers dialog and click on the DIALOG tab and then click on LAYERS.

You will have to select the puzzle layer and switch the target image layer off for now. In order to accomplish this, click on the “eye” next to the target image to set it as invisible. Next up, while you are still in the layers dialog box, you will have to click on the puzzle base layer, highlighting it. Now you are ready to edit the puzzle base layer.

You will have to select your “fuzzy select tool”, which you will find on the main tools panel. It resembles to a magic wand that has a yellow tip. Click on it in order to activate it. You must now click one of the puzzle pieces on the main base and one of the individual pieces should be now highlighted. Set the base image back to visible by clicking the eye in the layers dialog box. To select it, click on the target image. Now you should see the puzzle piece outline on your target image.
Next, select EDIT > CUT, in order to cut a jigsaw shaped piece out of the target image. Create a new window by clicking on FILE > NEW and paste (EDIT > PASTE) the jigsaw piece image into that new window. You will have to repeat this process for the rest of the puzzle pieces.

Google has made a great launch in the first week of September for their customers, a really advanced web browser. This is named as Google Chrome by the search engine giants. There are various expectations about Chrome as Google had given it a different look and feel, unseen in all the existing and past web browsers.
Chrome is designed using the minimal design features, but with the best technology which makes the browser faster and safer for the users. Google has developed Chrome using the open source code, which makes Chrome unique among its competitors.

The browser version launched by Google is the beta version. Google has declared that, they are planning to add values to their users through a qualified browser. This browser is expected to bring innovation on the internet.

The browser is made in a way that, users feel they are using a tool which will run pages, websites and applications. The initial reactions do include criticism in regards to its security flaws.

There were various goals and targets set by Google about chrome, even before its introduction in the market. The main goals were considered to be security, stability and quickness of execution. The user interface was changed in a way that makes Chrome, easier for handling.

Google chrome takes much care and attention to make the browser highly secure for use by their customers. They have made use of blacklists that have the lists of malware websites. This will help them to warn their users of any attempt made by them to reach harmful sites.

Speed of chrome is another main aspect where Google has given complete concentration during the development. The implementation is made in a way that is suitable for the small programs, which is not that particular about the performance as well as interactivity of the system. At the same time, advanced applications can very well get maximum benefit out of the way in which Google chrome has been designed. Google chrome incognito is one feature you’d like to look into.

Stability of Google chrome has already received great appreciation from customers. The task manager facility provided by Google chrome is intended at helping users to observe the sites which have more memory usage along with downloading of more bytes. You can also notice the sites which are abusing CPU.

You can get easy to handle interface allowing you to make use of the back, forward, refresh and other simple facilities provided by Google chrome. The tab bar is situated under the title bar, in the minimized state.

You can also create shortcuts in your desktop for the web applications provided by the Google chrome web browser. This will not interrupt the way the user works, since the regular interface will not be available when the browser is opened using this feature.

At the same time, Google has received some security flaws which are criticized by opponents within this short time span.

With Google chrome, web becomes more advanced and special. Users will have a different web browsing experience as they use this browser. The users of chrome will surely have a unique and distinct feeling as they continue to use this new browser of Google. The whole community using Google chrome will help in taking the web forward.

Dropbox has been around for a couple of years and they have done amazing things in that limited of time. I particularly like their VoteBox system which invites you to pick which improvements they work on first: Great idea. They offer three options: 1 free and 2 premium or pro editions. The free version provides 2 Gb whereas the pro editions supply you with 50 or 100 Gb. Backup and synchronizing are straightforward to get going and work constantly in the background making this a true “set it and forget it” utility. The company also offer unlimited file versioning as an option to the pro editions.

Handheld devices are totally supported with apps for iPhone and iTouch and a website for internet enabled devices. Collaboration functions include public and private file sharing as well as commenting on files and folders. With many more features in being developed. Photo albums and video streaming are currently supported. And how is this for customer facing: If you follow the ‘getting started guide’ and complete most of the steps you are rewarded with an additional 250Mb of storage! Excellent! If you want even more capacity, simply invite friends and you get another 250Mb per referral up to a limit of 8Gb.

Dropbox was incorporated by Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi back in 2007, and got seed funding from Y Combinator. As of now, Dropbox is well-funded by Sequoia Capital, Accel Partners, and Amidzad. After launching publicly in September of 2008, they have taken on in excess of three million customers and are growing quickly. They have been featured in the New York Times and on TechCrunch, and have won awards from places like PC Magazine and CNET. Their drive is delivering a program that really delivers and putting it in millions of people’s hands.

Feature Set

Security

DropBox has average security: The web portal is SSL encrypted and you need a username and password to get to your files. File transfers are protected with SSL encryption and once in their data centers, your information is encrypted with 256 AES encryption. Additionally, they use the Amazon AWS service which is supported by the Amazon name and quality stamp.

Backup Features

Always ready and ‘Block Level’ backups are provided to ensure your files are constantly protected. In-use files are archived on a continual basis by using ‘Block level Incremental Backups’ which means that DropBox only uploads the bits of a file that have been changed, rather than the entire file.

Including files and folders to the DropBox backup schedule is really straightforward: Merely select the files you would like to to archive and choose ‘backup with DropBox’. Alternative versions of files are stored so you can always retrieve an earlier edition of a document if you accidentally deleted it. There is a status indicator to show how the backup is progressing.

The bad news is network and removable drives cannot be added to archives and business databases like exchange and SQL server are not supported directly.

Restore Features

Restoring your data is very simple. You have a couple of main choices: Restore from the web portal: log in to your account, navigate to the file you would like to retrieve, then choose how you want to retrieve it. The secondary option is even simpler: Just use the DropBox Manager to get back any desired edition of a file.

Control and Analysis

There are processor and bandwidth throttling available in the DropBox client program. Reports and logging can also be read from the client software. Proxy servers are configurable with options for HTTP, SOCKS4 and SOCKS5.

Interface

The interface is uncluttered and easy to use. There are very few options available which keeps everything simple and easy to use. There is client software to install and when configured, the software makes a DropBox folder where all protected files are displayed.

Device Support

There is currently support for every device under the sun! The way DropBox is designed; if your devices can get access to the internet then they can use and be protected by DropBox.
Limitations

The web site can only handle file uploads of up to 300 megabytes each however you can get around this limitation by using compression tools like WinRAR or WinZip which permit you to break large files into handier pieces. The limit is not present if you use the client software.

File retention (before deletion) is one month unless you invest in ‘Pack-Rat’ which is available as an bolt-on to the Premium versions and costs an extra $39 per annum and allows you unlimited file versions and file retention.

File Sharing and Collaboration

Data can be shared publicly – which allows everyone to see them – or privately where you allocate access rights to specific files and folders for each user or group.

Photo Albums are also supported and can be shared either publicly or privately.

Comments can be included to each file that is shared and viewers can be permitted to leave additional comments to create a discussion about a particular file or folder.

Synchronization

Synchronization is supported between different devices and between devices and the web site. A really good function is the LAN synchronization. This permits devices on the same network (home or work) to rapidly synchronize changes via the in-house network without going to the internet first. This greatly reduces your internet bandwidth load.

Web 2.0 Integration

At the time of writing, there was no direct integration with online services to allow editing of documents, etc.

Customer Support

There is no telephone, live chat or direct email customer support available. There are however, loads other forms of help available: You can contact support using a web form on their site; there is an extensive knowledge base and FAQ section; the documentation is thorough to a sensible level. There are also tutorials, a demo and case studies available. However, by far the most useful resources for do-it-yourself support are the forum and blog. These are full of valuable advice and support from both the DropBox support crew and clients using the service.
Ease Of Use

Very simple to get setup with: Signup, login, download the program on all your devices and start protecting your files. As of December 2009 there is now a LAN sync feature which is really great. Both the desktop and web interfaces are clear, elegant and easy to use. All things considered a very easy package to use.

Conclusion

DropBox is very easy to install and use. It has almost all the features of a complete online storage solution: Backup, Web site, multi-machine synchronization, file-versioning, online photo albums and file sharing. The only feature missing is integration with web sites to allow you to change and create files directly in your DropBox. The pricing is not bad yet there are better options available if you need more storage than 100Gb. The security is very good and the customer support is good, although the lack of phone, internet chat and direct email support is a bit limiting. The forum and blog are great locations to get your queries answered. If you want an all-round online storage solution then DropBox is an excellent choice.

If you’ve ever surfed the net, I don’t know how QuickTime could have possibly passed you over. It’s literally tied in to millions of daily media streams. QuickTime is used for the latest movie trailers and media files because of its good video and audio quality. But is it worth having as your main player? Let’s find out in the review.

What’s the deal with QuickTime?
Well, I’m going to share something for the typical user out there that has this myth that QuickTime has to be installed with iTunes. Yes, it’s a myth, there is a standalone installer of QuickTime that you can find on Softpedia’s site (located here) and if you want to grab it directly from the MAC Web site, you can go in the inner dungeons and backdoor shortcuts where they secretly keep this mythical little program (here). You don’t have to get the bundled version. Beware, the install itself is about 60Mb (one of the larger player installs I’ve had).

The first thought that goes through my head is how has this player survived this long? Oh that’s right, it’s the only player (aside from QuickTime Alternative) which allows you to watch .MOV files that’s kept it going all these years. This player has been dragged along for quite some time now, especially with its latest intertwining of iTunes. I can’t seem to get two mouse clicks into running the player without getting kicked to iTunes’ official site for a download.

If you haven’t already used QuickTime,
then you must not watch a lot of online media. Because the player itself is so versatile, I guess I understand why it’s constantly geared toward streaming media files. By combining audio and video real-time content, they offer high audio/video quality that’s constantly used over the net.
For this reason alone, users tend to watch their online media with QuickTime. Don’t get me wrong, it does in fact have good audio and visuals. QuickTime even includes good compression technology using Qualcomm’s Purevoice and QDesign Music Codec for sound and Sorenson Video for video.
This latest version includes an integrated plug-in which allows you to watch QuickTime files from your browser. For caching of movies, playback of movies at different sizes, and QuickTime VR Hot Spots (like Web hotlinks but the links are contained within QTVR movies) you can use QuickTime since it also includes some of the latest QuickTime VR.
If you download the Pro version, you can get some more tools like movie and image filtering tools, the ability to save movies in the new DV camcorder format, and more availability for online media. Some of the added features full-screen broadcast-quality video playback, high-quality streaming capabilities, support for more than 30 audio and video formats, A/V editing and manipulation tools, ability to save audio and movie files from the Web, and streaming encoding tools.

As for what it plays, well it does support MPEG-4 and MP3 content, along with AVI, AVR, MPEG-1, H.263, and OpenDML, but I can’t recommend using this as your default player unless you’re on a MAC, and even then I’d hesitate.

The Good

When you’re cruising around the net, you’re bound to come to a .MOV file that you can only play with QuickTime. You can view all QuickTime media directly from your viewer without having the need to open it up directly.

The Bad

For the people that have the bundled version of Quicktime (with iTunes), you have to download the whole package again. It takes some liberties that you normally don’t want it to take (startup wise). It’s filled with ads that boot you directly to their website. When talking about QuickTime files though, they typically lack the quality of .MPEG files.

The Truth

I get the feeling that this player acts more like a codec than a player. You don’t really use it when you’re surfing the web since the picture automatically displays in your player. As for the player itself, well, I can’t say it’s anything special. It’s got good audio/video, but that’s only for .MOV files. If you don’t want to grab QuickTime player, go ahead and just get the QuickTime Alternative. But this player isn’t so bad, it just acts more like a codec in my opinion.

A lot of people have now played Minecraft, it is a great game and people like to create, fight, mine and even craft on it, but why do people really like the game?

People love Minecraft because of three simple things, ownership, replayability and ease of use. These may seem like crazy ideas to think about but it is true that the main reasons people really love Minecraft is because of how it lets them have a part of a world which is actually theirs (ownership). Players can play time and time again (replayability). Finally it is so simple to get started that anyone can play it and have fun without needing to delve into the deeper aspects of Minecraft.

Minecraft can be a nice addition to life or not. Although it is fun individuals will need to be vigilant on how often they’re going on it. Minecraft is usually a really great experience that players are able to get a load of benefits through, by crafting or mining funnily enough. So there’s hardly any shock that various companies are making lots of dollars from Minecraft. Going on virtual games is a really great hobby to assist gamers to de-stress and improve after a working day. Players can experience stacks of superb experiences after getting online during your afternoon.

Ownership

Being able to own part of your own land or your whole world is a big deal for Minecraft players. Many gamers have been wanting to try and get their own piece of land inside current massively multiplayer games and have failed. Finally Minecraft allows us to do this which is really awesome. I understand players can totally adore the game when they commence playing it. This is key as it makes the gamer feel important, like they are having a real responsibility in how the world evolves.

Replayability

Allowing people to socialize with people via Minecraft is a true benefit. Getting massive amounts of other gamers online means people will share their creations and thus keep replaying the game to be able to show off their own creations. Try to attempt to develop your own collection of people on the web. Having friends will increase the amount of enjoyment you get out of Minecraft.

Ease Of Use

A lot of games will bombard you with various controls, tutorials, how to guides and even beginner guides just to get started with playing the game. On Minecraft I think you have 7 controls, WASD for movement, E for inventory, left click and right click. By being so simple, Minecraft allows you to get playing and start enjoying quicker than other games.

A really cool element of the game that the majority of players like is the amazing characters, for example Stevie! If you think about it there are not many games to be found quite like it. Many games rely on graphics, but this is not really the big sale of Minecraft.

You can start on the game right away if you want to. The game is amazingly straight forward to commence playing. Websites have piles of tips that individuals will be able to embrace when players become stuck. Nearly all difficulties should be answered by digging around on sites. Fan sites are great and you should definitely get involved.

Finding tips regarding Minecraft can be a great way to get started playing. As a final note if you are thinking about playing Minecraft then I highly recommend it. It is a fantastic game with a lot of great features to keep you playing.

Minecraft and About it
A talented developer called Markus Persson is the man behind Minecraft; the indie sandbox building game. He created Minecraft in May 2009. If you don’t know what Minecraft is, then I suggest you do a video search for Minecraft Worlds, and you’ll soon get an idea of what the game is about – basically you can build anything you desire by destroying and placing blocks of various different materials. Minecraft can be played online and offline, the game simulates both the day-time and night-time, during the night-time mode monsters appear, so make sure you have the safety of a fortress built to ensure you remain protected! With well over 2 million people having now bought a Minecraft account, it’s clearly a great game!

Minecraft is all about construction, that’s what you do throughout the game. You will find that the Minecraft world is built of lots of cubical blocks on a fixed grid pattern, representing a number of different materials, including glass, stone, dirt, water and wood. The avatar that you play as has a pickaxe, which allows him to destroy these blocks, as well as lay new ones. There are no restrictions on where your avatar can move around in the Minecraft world, but, blocks, items and objects are only allowed to be placed at their relative spots on the game grid.

Although Minecraft is still in beta development, you can still purchase a copy for $25, but, if you don’t have $25 to spare, you can actually get yourself a free Minecraft account in exchange for filling out a couple of short surveys from different websites. It doesn’t take too long to do (you could do it in 30 minutes).

As with most games these days, Minecraft has a multiplayer version and a single player version.

Minecraft is a game that any gamer should consider. If you haven’t got a Minecraft account yet, then get one, it’s worth it, if you don’t have the spare funds then get a free Minecraft account from a site like the one I mentioned earlier, just complete a few short surveys and you get your free Minecraft account. The game is this popular for a reason! Explore your creative side, build your own world, your imagination is the only limitation.

Now, many people have asked me how these websites are able to give Minecraft accounts away for free, and the answer is simple really – they’re not. They get paid for the surveys you complete, and then they use this money to purchase your Minecraft account, so you get a free account, and they earn a few bucks too. Simple!

After you’ve earned your free Minecraft account, if you find that you like the idea of completing surveys for free stuff, then keep earning! That same website allows you to exchange your points to redeem vouchers to spend at online shops, as well as free steam games, vouchers to eBay, Argos, Amazon, all for free. Sure, it might take half an hour of your time to complete enough surveys to earn your free game, but I would bet my last dollar that you will play that game for a lot longer than 30 minutes!

On a final note… make that search for “Minecraft worlds”, after checking out a few videos you’re bound to want in, and you know where to go to get your free account!

Learn to Use Open Office http://softeclipse.com/learn-to-use-open-office/ http://softeclipse.com/learn-to-use-open-office/#comments Wed, 12 Sep 2012 10:50:13 +0000 Admin http://softbuddy.org/?p=260

Increasing numbers of computers are being sold with Open Office installed. Open Office is a complete suite of office programs produced by Sun Micro Systems. It’s biggest advantage is that it is free to download. It contains all the usual elements of a suite of office programs. Word processing, databases, spreadsheets, presentation.

My local computer shop loads Open Office onto all the systems they sell. This means that all the systems have a fully functioning suite of office programs which can be used as soon as the computer is turned on.

There are great advantages to using Open Office. It’s word processing software has a similar layout to Microsoft Word 2003 or earlier. The toolbar has the same icons in the same order.

Open Office can read documents that were produced using Microsoft Office, so you won’t miss out if someone sends you a document produced in MS Office. Conversely if you produce a document in Open Office and wish to send it to an MS user, you can “Save As” and save the document in MS Office format so that other people can read it.

If you want to produce a document that can be read by anyone, anywhere, Open Office has a built in pdf converter. You can export your document in pdf format and then anyone with pdf reading software can read it. The most common pdf reading software is Adobe Reader.

In recent months I have noticed several computers, especially laptops, being sold with Linux as the operating system in place of Windows. Open Office works perfectly with Linux. Both are free and this combination can half the cost of a fully functioning laptop.

What do you do if you are a beginner to computing and you have Open Office? You will find that most beginner’s courses are written for Microsoft Office users. This is understandable as Microsoft Office has been dominant in the market for many years and if you attend a course in a college or school, the chances are that the computers you use will have MS Office loaded.

There is an alternative though. There is one beginner’s computing course that is written especially for Open Office users. It starts right at the beginning and introduces you to your computer and the mouse. It teaches you to use the keyboard and how to edit your text. It shows you what the icons in Open Office Writer do. Once you have mastered the mouse and learnt basic layout and editing it moves on to showing you how to produce a poster, how to handle columns and how to use Font Works. Simply put it teaches you the basics of word pressing with Open Office Writer and then introduces you to some of the more advanced features. It is a complete beginners course, but written specifically for Open Office users.

Setting up Skype is one of the easiest tasks that anyone with a computer can do. There is basically zero technical knowledge required, aside from the basic understanding of how to download and install a computer application.

Skype is used around the world to connect different people together without having to make expensive international phone calls through a landline or mobile phone. The way that Skype operates is through a system called VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) that allows a cheap and convenient method by transmitting over the Internet. This saves money for communications companies, and therefore Skype can be offered free of charge as a means of global communication.

Skype is extremely simple to set up at home. Whether it is for work or to keep in touch with friends or relatives, Skype can be set up as quickly as 1-2-3. All that is required is that you have a working Internet connection – and the rest is simple.

Record Skype Conversation with G-Record Plugin http://softeclipse.com/record-skype-conversation-with-g-record-plugin/ http://softeclipse.com/record-skype-conversation-with-g-record-plugin/#comments Sat, 08 Sep 2012 10:45:57 +0000 Admin http://softbuddy.org/?p=257

Millions, in fact hundred of millions of people across the world have a Skype account and use Skype to make calls to friends, family and for business on a daily basis. Because of this huge membership base Skype is a massive business in its own right but there is one part of Skype that users have to look elsewhere to gain functionality.

Many people have the desire or requirement to record Skype conversations, this need is borne out of wishing to keep a copy of Skype conversations for prosperity, business or even college use. Skype unfortunately does not have the functionality to record the conversations being made through the application.

Since its launch a few great applications have been created to fill this void and give the masses what they want, an application to record Skype conversations.

The first applications to be built with the function to record Skype conversations allowed users to record Skype calls and save them directly to the computer being used to make the call. These applications were great and offered a simple and effective tool to record Skype conversations.

Since the first generation Skype call recording applications were built the user requirements have changed. Many Skype users require a more robust and advanced facility to record Skype calls and the latest application to offer this has really fulfilled these requirements.

The latest Skype call recording application takes innovation to its limits and really gives Skype users what they require. This application does not simply allow calls to be recorded and saved to a local computer, this application actually lets users record Skype calls and save them directly to a Gmail account.

Imagine using one touch to save your Skype call directly into the safe and secure Google network where you can retrieve the call when ever you want and where ever you are.

This same application backs up this great functionality with its “Conversations” feature that puts all related calls and IM chats from Skype together for ease of finding related information whenever required. I am sure many are interested in this as its always difficult trying to wade through call and chat logs to find specific data.

To make life even easier this latest Skype call recording facility combines both these functions with a cloud storage feature that means you can simply click one button to locate what ever you need.

Since its humble beginnings Skype and its associated extras have come on leaps and bounds, so much so that today some of the Skype extras delivered for private companies are really pushing the boundaries of technology. Some of the most advanced of the Skype extras are those that allow Skype call recording

Popular and preeminent VoIP service Skype has wooed its fair share of people with an itch to ditch the landline and an Internet connection, especially those with international contacts. With its latest update to version 5, the company hopes to win over even more customers and keeping the current ones happy. Skype 5.0 features a streamlined interface, Facebok integration, and videoconferencing functionality.

First, Skype tackled the overall user experience of the software. The new Home page integrates a feed of mood messages from your contacts and yourself, and it offers a variety of tutorials to help you use the various features of the service, from making a video call to signing up for a subscription. The company also aimed to simplify the overall interface in order to make calling, messaging, screen sharing, and file transferring more intuitive and easier to navigate. In addition, the contact search screen now features images and mood messages and offers real-time results.

Skype is also offering a new group-video-calling feature. According to company data, about 40 percent of all Skype-to-Skype minutes were used on video calling. The logical step was to provide a feature that allowed users to chat with more than just one other person. Anyone who downloads version 5 will have a chance to test out the new functionality for free, though it will be a paid extra down the line.

The videoconferencing feature offers a few viewing options. One is the typical side-by-side screen with participants lined up in equal sizes. Then there’s the more interesting dynamic view, which increases the size of the person doing most of the talking at any given moment. We got to check this out in a live demo and can see how it would be particularly useful for business calls.

The group video screen also prominently displays the relevant controls along the bottom, as well as a meter that measures call quality. Skype has added a call quality manager that gauges audio and video quality during calls. Automatic call recovery is another new feature that helps users quickly reconnect calls that are interrupted because of Internet connection problems.

Last but not least, Skype now has Facebook integrated seamlessly into the interface. A tab along the top of the screen will take you into your news feed, where you can update your status as well as start Skype calls with various contacts.

The Benefits of Using Skype With Your Home Business

Are you considering using Skype for your home business? When it comes to communication for business, Skype is a tool you just can’t do without. It has a variety of impressive and useful features that allow you to check in with your business partners, send files, make international calls, and hold video conferences with potential clients.

This tool is extremely popular among entrepreneurs and small business owners. In fact, on February 27, 2012, 34 million Skype users were reported to be online, using the service at the same time.

There aren’t many individuals who are able to get the most out of Skype, though. Many home business owners just don’t realize how useful this service can be or how much time it can save them with their day-to-day work. If you are thinking of using Skype for your business, understanding its best features, using a quality handfree headset, and knowing a few simple tips and tricks can help you use Skype to its full potential.

How to Use Skype for Your Home Business

Using Skype with your home business can be very helpful, if you know what you are doing. Here are a few tips to get you started.

    • Screen Share – One of the best features Skype has to offer is its screen sharing program. This allows you to show your employees, customers, and business partners exactly what is on your screen as you are speaking to them. This is an easy way to give presentations, assist remote employees with any issues they are having, or even show your client how much of his project you have completed.
    • Skype Extras – If you have ever worked with online applications like WordPress, you know what a plug-in is. Skype has them too, but they are known as extras. These extras can be downloaded right to your computer, and there is an app for almost everything. With these extras, you can play games, obtain voicemail for your Skype, record Skype calls, and integrate Microsoft Outlook.
    • Call Forwarding – So, you finally decided to step out for a short break and a visit to your local Starbucks. Wouldn’t you know that this would be the exact time a client you have been trying to reel in for months decides to call? If you aren’t by your computer, what happens? If you have set up call forwarding on your Skype, the phone call comes straight to your mobile phone, and you won’t have to worry about missing that all-important phone call.
    • Use Skype Hands Free – Because Skype is a online application, you can easily connect your handsfree headset to your computer and use with Skype. This means, you can chat with an employee or business partner while you look through your file cabinet or run into the next room for the document you left on the kitchen counter.
  • Skype as Customer Service – You may be wary about placing your Skype username directly on your business website. After all, you don’t want some hacker to get a hold of it and ruin your new home-based company. With Skype, though, you don’t have to. You can allow customers to contact you with their questions by placing a Skype button on your site. Users simply have to click the button if they have a problem or question, and you don’t have to share your username with the world.

Skype is a tool that no home-based business or small business should be without. Share files, hold a video conference, use you handsfree headset for better communication, and improve your customer service with this essential and invaluable tool.

Why is Skype So Popular?
There’s a vast amount of people infatuated with skype and what it brings to the Internet. Skype gives anyone the ability to have free Internet phone calls or video calls with a web cam and and a mic, it’s a new to communicate throughout the world. Many critics say that Skype isn’t really VoIP when you’re using it, it’s something very unique that indulges users together, and also entertains there users with board games such as chess and checkers etc. It’s pretty much new way to instant message your friends, and also entertain each while your at it.

Another thing that makes skype so popular and user friendly, is it’s theme. If you ever notice on the Internet now in days, you’ll see that online companies are adding bright and vibrant to attract users to it’s website or service. Of course this is nothing new, many online companies are doing that right? well if you really look close enough, you’ll begin to see that many very successful online social networks and online companies are focusing in on very bright and friendly colors. This of course invites people to these sites and online communications. Many of the old school networks, and communications, were very gloomy, and not really appealing, so if you’re thinking about starting your own online communications method or social network make sure it’s very bright and user friendly.

Another reason why they’re so popular, has to do with how simple there company name is. “skype” When you say the word “Skype” you’ll first see that it’s not as hard to pronounce, and it’s very marketable. It bounces around the phonological lube, and it stays there. At times when think about the Internet, or communicating on the Internet, your mind will consciously pick up the word skype, with you really knowing, it happens because of the word and how easy it is to pronounce.

Last but not least, Skype allows you to contact make calls to landline phones, but in order for you to do that with skype, you’ll need to be involved with Skype’s pay service. They charge you about 2 cents per minute and if you really like skypes program and you’re tired of paying for your cell phone or what ever the case may be, you can join skypes unlimited program which is about $3 per month for calls in the U.S. and Canada. If you’re thinking about using this service for business uses to call internationally, then skype is a must have program.
